Behind the Breakroom: Katie Pilcher and the Work You Don’t See

Apr 16, 2026

In 2026, It seems as though AI is everywhere you turn. But as its presence grows, consumers are craving something different; connection. Research shows that when people know content is AI-generated, their likelihood to purchase often decreases.

People value realness. They want to feel the human effort behind a product, a brand, or a message. When you know the person behind the product, it stops feeling like just another trend and starts feeling like something meaningful and that someone wants the best for you.

Most people don’t truly understand what a day in the life of a role looks like until they experience it themselves. Take a Director of Sales, for example; many assume it’s just leading a team and managing staff. But if you’re serious about creating engagement and excitement in the breaktime experience, it’s a whole lot more than that.

Enter Katie Pilcher. She got her start as the owner of a children’s retail boutique. While those days are behind her, a customer review from that time reads:

“What a darling store. You can find great gifts and extraordinary customer service here with Katie, the owner. Drop in and visit her next time you’re shopping for children's clothing or a birthday gift. You won't be disappointed”

After closing her business she then became a buyer/merchandiser for Businesses where she says “Sales had been a good 20 years of my life, however, nothing like B2B Sales- I made my way to B2B Sales when I made my first cold call almost 6 years ago to who would shortly end up being by boss (Pat Barger) with Five Star- I guess my pitch was pretty good! “

4:30 a.m. — Her alarm rings.

‘I’ve always been an early bird,’ she says. ‘My grandfather taught me that the early bird gets the worm. I’m usually up between 4:30 and 5 a.m.’”

5:00 am- What she calls her “Me Time”

“My early morning consists of exercise, devotion, meditation, and school prep for Hope (my 12-year-old),” she explains. “A few emails may occur during that time—especially if I’m traveling. Every day is a little different. Some days are true office days, filled with prospecting, planning, correspondence, reports, and more. Other days are full of appointments, customer events, installs, cold calls, and driving. I cover four branches: Mobile and Dothan, Alabama; Pensacola, Florida; and Albany, Georgia. Lunch is usually with a client, at my desk, or in the car!”

With our April focus of the month in mind, we couldn’t resist asking Katie about her go-to source of lasting energy. She was happy to answer with “

Black Hot Coffee all day! Sometime an afternoon hot tea- I'll bring energy drinks all day long to our customers but have never had one....( I don't want to know what I'm missing, so ignorance is bliss on this 🙂)”

When it comes to connecting with clients, Katie explains that attention to detail is key. “I’m attentive to detail—sometimes to a fault. But I think the details in life are such a part of the bigger picture in a person's day-to-day. Generally, what’s important in a person’s personal or home life is often important in their professional life as well. If I can highlight and deliver specific details of what a person is looking for while making them feel heard and understood, that’s a win.”

She also emphasizes the importance of social media in her role. “YES! However, over the last year, I’ve grossly under-utilized networking like I used to. I encourage anyone to tap into social media—it’s a great tool for communication.”

To wrap it up we wanted to leave something for the people reading this and thinking should “I reach out for a consultation “Katie offers practical advice. “If you’re on the fence but have been evaluating your breakroom, I’m sure you’ve realized the direct impact it has on employee satisfaction, productivity, and even retention. A well-designed space isn’t a perk—it’s a strategic advantage. I’ll help show you what’s possible by bringing your important details to life, with no obligation to move forward.”

Katie’s day is demanding, but it’s also purposeful. From early mornings to client lunches and the mix of office and fieldwork, her approach shows that success comes from attention, connection, and a bit of caffeine.
